Fraudsters began to introduce themselves as census takers
The population census began on October 15, and fraudsters have already begun to impersonate census takers. A few days ago, the Russians began to receive calls. People introduced themselves as census takers and allegedly carried out a reconciliation. But in fact, they tried to find out personal data. The kp.ru website explains what you need to know in order not to become a victim of scammers.
- The scribe does not call
In previous years, the census was carried out only in person. The census takers went to addresses, rang the doorbell, and filled out paper questionnaires. This time, the census is partly digital. You can write on your own – through the portal of public services. Or you can wait in an old-fashioned way – wait for a living person at home. Another option is to come to the MFC or a stationary census point. But what is not on the list is phone calls. If someone calls you and introduces himself as a scribe, you can safely hang up. This is definitely a scammer.
- Clothes with symbols
Scribes will go to every apartment. They will be recognizable by their branded clothing and other attributes. So, the census takers (and they go in pairs) will have passports and certificates with the indication of the surname. Be sure to check both documents. The surnames must match. In addition, the census takers will have census scarves, waistcoats and bags. They will enter all information not on sheets of paper, but in electronic tablets.
- No need to show documents
An important point is that scribes do not ask for any supporting documents. They do not need to show their passport, pension certificate, or other official papers. Everything will be recorded according to your words. If you are asked to show your passport or documents for the apartment, this is a bad sign. Call the police!
- They don’t ask about income
A total of 33 questions will be asked. Among them there is a question about earnings. But it only concerns their source: salary, pension, entrepreneurship, interest, etc. The scribe has no right to ask a question about your income or savings. If this happens, then it is not a scribe.
